Janie Peterson has worked with children and families for more than twenty years. She is
a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) in the state of Nebraska and holds a master’s
degree from the University of Kansas. Janie has devoted her career to helping children
with chronic and/or severe behavior problems.
After Peterson developed the Sleep Fairy method, a study was conducted to determine its
effectiveness. This was presented at the Annual Association of Professional Sleep Societies
Conference in Seattle, WA (June 2001). Results indicate that using Petersons’ method
substantially reduces children’s bedtime problems and night awakenings.
Peterson wrote The Sleep Fairy, her first children's book, so that parents everywhere
would be able to apply her method to their own families’ bedtime routines. The Sleep
Fairy ensures that bedtime is a positive and enjoyable time for parents and children alike.
She also co-authored two books designed to help therapists work with families: Building
Skills in High Risk Families (©1995, Boys Town Press) and Skills for Families, Skills
for Life (©1999, Boys Town Press).
Macy Peterson, Janie and Roger’s middle daughter, is a student at the University of
Nebraska at Lincoln. When not busy with her studies, Macy enjoys writing poetry and
playing the piano.
